Tunesia, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan—a leaderless grassroots movement, driven by youth and facilitated by social media, has captured the imagination, hopes, and dreams of a generation of Arabs. What does this mean for them, for the United States, and the rest of the world? What should the United States do in these precarious circumstances? Encourage their hopes for freedom? Stand by long term rulers who stood by the United States and supported many of her interests for decades? What are the risks of democracy in the Middle East? As a nation, we will send a message to the Arab world (and others) through our actions or inaction, and we will be judged by what we say and what we do not in these critical moments of truth. If you had the world stage for 1 minute, what would you say to Arab youth?
