Future Forum members are invited to join members of the Friends of the LBJ Library for a special presentation by Maria Shriver. Ms. Shriver will introduce American Idealist: The Story of Sargent Shriver, a documentary honoring her father. The documentary will then be shown in its entirety.
"Peace Corps, VISTA, Community Action, Head Start, Legal Services for the Poor, Youth Corps, Job Corps, and more. Sargent Shriver invented a string of social initiatives that shaped an era and dared millions of young Americans to live out their ideals. A powerful 90-minute depiction of practical activism, American Idealist offers a hopeful vision of what this nation could be and could do, based on the experience of what it once did when pushed by the civil rights movement and guided by the War on Poverty." -- Chicago Video Project
As First Lady of California, Maria Shriver is addressing critical issues including the struggles of the working poor, childhood obesity, Alzheimer's disease, the challenges faced by people living with disabilities, the support of military families, disaster preparedness, the acknowledgment of the accomplishments of women, and the promotion of culture, art and history throughout the state. Shriver has served as reporter, correspondent and anchor for world news organizations such as CBS and NBC. She has been honored with a Peabody Award and an Emmy Award and is the author of five New York Times best-selling books.
Tickets are required and will be mailed to those who RSVP affirmatively. A reception will not be held following the program.
