On Monday, June 11 at 7:00 p.m., the Future Forum will host presidential historian Michael Beschloss to discuss what he believes makes a president great: presidential courage. Please plan to join us in the Atrium on the 10th floor of the Library. Evan Smith, Editor of Texas Monthly, will interview Beschloss. A reception and book-signing will follow.
Beschloss was recently appointed NBC News' Presidential Historian - the first time any major network has created such a position - and appears regularly on Meet the Press, Today, and all NBC News programs, providing viewers with expert analysis of the executive branch. He is the author of the best-sellers The Conquerors: Roosevelt, Truman and the Destruction of Hitler's Germany, 1941- 1945; Taking Charge: The Johnson White House Tapes, 1963-1964 and Reaching for Glory; as well as The Crisis Years: Kennedy and Khrushchev, 1960-1963; Mayday: Eisenhower, Khrushchev, and the U-2 Affair; and Kennedy and Roosevelt: The Uneasy Alliance.
His latest book, Presidential Courage: Brave Leaders and How They Changed America, 1789-1989, describes crucial times when courageous presidents took career-threatening risks and overcame obstacles to dramatically change the future of the United States. Copies of Presidential Courage: Brave Leaders and How They Changed America, 1789-1989 will be sold at the event. Mr. Beschloss will be available to sign books purchased from the LBJ Museum Store.
