The Future Forum will hold a Presidential Debate Watching Party. Come watch the Debate and engage in discussion afterwards. Come join the LBJ Future Forum for a Debate Watching Party.

We'll start off with drinks and appetizers (we will provide that) and good conversation (you can provide that!) and then we will watch the debate at 8PM. After the debate, we will have a short (because of the late hour) discussion and find out your thoughts on the debate and the upcoming election.

We hear all the time about how we are becoming more and more polarized as a society, so we want to get people with different viewpoints together to watch the debate TOGETHER and to talk about it afterwards. Along those lines, we invite you to bring a guest of the opposite party or one who is supporting a different candidate (than you are), so we can have diversity of opinions and viewpoints. Or, just come and make a new friend - whether you are voting for the same candidates or not.

We hope to see you there. Also, bring your blackberries or laptop computers if you want to join in on the blogging during the debate. We will have a large screen set up to display your thoughts/blogs. Also, in preparation for the upcoming elections on the state and local levels KLRU (one of our Civic Partners) is showing a series of programs on local races. (see info below or check out www.KLRU.org for more information) Friday, October 1st (& Sunday the 3rd) Red and Blue Austin - Austin Now presents program on "Red and Blue Austin" looking into the political and cultural divide in our region.

In this episode, we travel to the reddest and bluest of the political precincts in the city and meet families that wear their colors proudly. What makes some parts of our community Republican Red and others Democratic Blue? Tune in to find out.

Over the next several weeks, Austin Now continues the KLRU tradition of presenting candidate forums for the most hotly contested local races by focusing on the races for State Representative in District 50 (Republican Jack Stick versus Democrat Mark Strama.), District 48 (Republican Todd Baxter versus Democrat Kelly White.), and District 45 (Republican Alan Askew versus Democrat Patrick Rose).
