Future Forum Members are invited to join our Community Partner, KLRU, at a special prescreening of award-winning documentarian Paul Stekler's film LAST MAN STANDING that will air nationally on PBS as part of the P.O.V. series later this summer. Here is a link to their web site with more information about the film: http://www.pbs.org/pov/pov2004/lastmanstanding/index.html
LAST MAN STANDING takes a lively, behind-the-scenes look at a pair of 2002 elections - one for state representative in a district that includes Lyndon Johnson's hometown, and a polarizing race for governor. Prominent Texans, including Bush strategist Karl Rove, former Governor Ann Richards, Clinton appointees Henry Cisneros and Paul Begala, and writer Molly Ivins shed light on the changing political landscape.
In the end, LAST MAN STANDING shows how politics in Texas may have become the blueprint for Washington. Commentary and Q&A with Paul Stekler will follow the viewing of the documentary. Please RSVP by July 9 to KLRU's Susanna Butler at 232-5757 or sbutler@klru.org.
About the filmmaker: Paul Stekler's documentary work includes "Vote for Me: Politics in America," a four-hour PBS special; two segments of "Eyes on the Prize II"; "Last Stand at Little Big Horn"; and "Louisiana Boys" which aired on P.O.V. His films have won two Peabody Awards, three duPont-Columbia Awards and three Emmy Awards. He runs the film and video production program at the University of Texas at Austin.
