Dear Catherine,
Welcome to Fall our Future Forum friends. Don't you
love this cooler weather? (Yes, cooler does
sometimes mean only in the 90s, but still. . . . . )
There
are some great events coming up this month, so
please come join us for as much as you would like.
With the upcoming elections, we will be talking
politics and elections this month.
We will have our first FUTURE FORUM PRESENTS
event of the season on October 18th. The
Book
Club, Film Cluster, and Cultural cluster all have
events planned this month! In keeping with the
election theme, the Film cluster even picked this
month's film by a vote.
If you have not yet renewed your Future Forum
membership, it is time to do so! Don't you want to
join us for more great programs,
discussions, events, cluster activities, and just
downright good times? Go Renew Right Now! We are
waiting for you! And, while you are at it, find a
friend to recruit, as well.
Our clusters are up and running - see the cluster
section for more information - and we are working on
the schedule for the FUTURE FORUM PRESENTS
events. Keep your eyes - and email boxes - open for
more information soon.

The Austin Music Foundation
The Austin Music Foundation (AMF) is a non-
profit organization with a singular mission: to unite,
ignite and revolutionize our local music community.
We will achieve this by offering programs and
services dedicated to:
the education, development and advancement of
musicians,
the creation and preservation of Austin's unique
musical heritage, and
the development of a united and sustainable local
music community. Our unique mission, innovative
methods, and fearless spirit drives our ever-growing
loyal following that includes local artists and their
fans, businesses, and the national music community.
Join us today and help educate and guide the next
generation of local talent.
Check the Community Events section for more
information on the October 2nd,
BootCamp. Monday, October 2nd
6:30 pm at Lucky Lounge
"Indie Labels: The Real Deal"
Panelists for this event include label representatives
who are on the pulse of the ever-changing business
dynamics of indie labels. The discussion will reveal
what kind of artists and artist development indie
labels are currently interested in and how their
business model has evolved over the past several
years. Artists will learn what it takes in today's
environment to be signed by an indie label, what
labels expect from talent, and what the reality of a
partnership with a label looks like in today's
marketplace. A not-to-be-missed event!

Foundation,

Upcoming Events
See What we Have in Store
We are planning Lots of Great Events for the
2006-
2007
season.
Keep your eyes open for more information soon.
Also, check out the Cluster section for more
information on the upcoming cluster events.
On October 18th at 7pm, we will be holding
our
next THE FUTURE FORUM PRESENTS event.
THE FUTURE FORUM PRESENTS: WHAT IS UP
WITH
THE 2006 ELECTIONS?
The event will be in the Atrium (10th floor) of the LBJ
Library at 7pm.
Our panel will discuss the
upcoming elections and answer your questions.
A few of the issues they will be asked to discuss
include: "What is really going on?" What are the
issues
that people really care about - as opposed to the
ones that get all the press
(if you think they are different)? Are the voters
really that displeased? What
are the issues that will get people to the polls and
actually affect how they
vote at the end of the day? How do you see the
political landscape changing (or
not) after this election?
We will have drinks, appetizers, and good
conversation after the panel discussion.
We will send out an email soon with more
information. Mark your calendars.

Recent Events And Updates on Past Events/Speakers
If you missed the Ice Cream Social and Film event on
August 24, then you really missed out on a fun - and
sweets filled - evening. After socializing and having
ice cream under the trees on the Overlook, we went
inside to watch "The Last Days of the San Jose."
After the film, which is a fascinating look at an Austin
landmark and the people who gave it even more
character, Liz Lambert (the owner and filmmaker)
spoke to us about the film and the hotel. She also
answered Future Forum members' questions. Candy
and popcorn were provided during the film.
And, if you missed it, you can still see the
film - although we don't promise candy and popcorn
unless you provide your own. And, you won't get to
hear Liz' great talk about the film. But, you will get
to see the film, which is pretty terrific. It will be
shown on KLRU this season as part of SXSW
presents. Check out the KLRU website for dates and
times.

Now Showing at the LBJ Library and Museum
Come check out the Permanent Exhibits at the LBJ
Library and Museum.
And, come check out the new Exhibit "Power to the
People: The
Electrification of Rural Texas."
Walk into a world before television, computers, the
iPod, refrigerators or even running water.
The
exhibit, Power to the People: The Electrification of
Rural Texas, is a unique story of one of the most
dramatic events in Texas history. Rural Texas in the
1930s was still in the dark as electric lines hadn’t
penetrated the beautiful, but rugged Texas Hill
Country.
Lyndon Johnson grew up here,
without
electricity, and vowed that once he had the
political power to bring change, he would. Visitors
will journey through time – feeling how tough life
was without electricity, seeing how Johnson worked
his political will to bring power lines to the
region, and understanding the difference
electrification made in the lives of Central Texans.
A highlight of the exhibit: home movies of the era
narrated by Lady Bird Johnson.
Also, don't forget, the LBJ Library and Museum is
open from 9-5 every day of the year except
Christmas day. And, admission is free (we are the
only Presidential Library that is free). By the way,
another bonus of the LBJ Library and Museum - the
view! The great picture of Texas Tower and the
Fountain looking out from the LBJ Library and Museum
is courtesy of Charles Bogel, who always takes the
great pictures at our events.
