Greetings!

Happy Independence Day! We hope you are having a great summer. Although it looks like we are slowing down some at the Future Forum (just for the summer), we are still busy planning some great events for the 2007-2008 season, which starts soon. If you have not yet renewed, we hope you will do so soon. We are planning a 5 year Birthday Party (we know, we don't look a day over 3!) and some other interesting and lively discussions and events.

Give us your thoughts! Please answer the nine questions in our brief survey. It will only take TWO MINUTES! This will help us build upon our successes and improve as we enter the 2007-2008 season. Thanks for your input.

Or, you can also send us an email if you have ideas to share. Send your thoughts to catherine@lbjlibrary.net.

If you're interested in the Film Cluster, please email Taline Manassian. See you at the movies!

If you would like to be added to the Book Club list, please email Taline Manassian.

If you would like to help plan events for the Cultural Cluster, please email the Future Forum.

Future Forum Clusters
Doers & Builders

The Future Forum serves as a nexus for Austin's leaders. Our members are actively engaged in many organizations. We encourage you to find out more about these Doers and Builders Organizations on our website.

Created by women in support of women, the Young Women's Alliance is a professional organization that aims to give professional women a resource for opportunities to lead, educate, network, and serve. YWA also proudly supports YWA Foundation, which awards scholarships and grants to women to help them pursue their academic endeavors.

For more information, please visit www.youngwomensalliance.org.

On June 11, Future Forum members enjoyed an intimate conversation with presidential historian and best-selling author Michael Beschloss. Beschloss and Evan Smith entertained with stories of presidential courage drawn primarily from Beschloss' new book Presidential Courage: Brave Leaders and How They Changed America, 1789-1989. You can still purchase an autographed copy at the LBJ Museum Store.

The recent debate between Christopher Hitchens and Marvin Olasky continues to draw an audience. Hitchens, a provocative atheist and author of the book God is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything, sparred with Olasky, a U.T. journalism professor and editor of World Magazine, on May 14. If you missed the debate or just want to watch it again, the webcast is available online: Hitchens/Olasky debate.

Other Community Events

There are lots of great events happening in and around Austin.

The Third Annual Moonlight Margarita Run benefiting Austin's Town Lake Trail will be held the evening of Thursday, August 2. Starting at sunset, runners and walkers will wind their way along a 5K course through the streets bordering Town Lake. Afterwards, the Trail Foundation will host a music-filled party with TexMex food and margaritas from Maudie's TexMex on the grassy grounds of the American Legion Hall.

Tickets are now available to the public at
www.moonlightmargaritarun.com at a cost of $30 for the run, $40 for the party or $60 for both. All proceeds from the race will be used to fulfill the Town Lake Trail Foundation's mission to improve, expand, beautify, protect and preserve the Town Lake Trail.
