Upcoming Events
See What We Have in Store

We still have a few seats left! Future Forum members are invited to a special sneak preview of The Kite Runner on Wednesday, December 5. Based on Khaled Hosseini's best-selling novel, The Kite Runner tells the story of two childhood friends, Amir and Hassan, torn apart in a divided country on the verge of war. On a glorious afternoon in Kabul, Afghanistan, the skies burst with the exhilarating joy of a kite-fighting tournament. But in the aftermath of the day's victory, one boy's fearful act of betrayal will mark their lives forever and set in motion an epic quest for redemption. Now, after 20 years of living in America, Amir returns to a perilous Afghanistan under the Taliban's iron-fisted rule to face the secrets that still haunt him and take one last daring chance to set things right.

The movie will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Regal Westgate Theatre on South Lamar. Please let us know if you plan to attend as seating is limited. Please also plan to arrive early. Afterwards, members of the Future Forum will meet in the Borders Cafe (in the same parking lot) to discuss the movie.

Please visit us online for more information or to RSVP.

Doers & Builders
December's Doers and Builders - Caritas of Austin

The Future Forum serves as a nexus for Austin's leaders. Our members are actively engaged in many organizations. We encourage you to find out more about these Doers and Builders on our website.

Since 1964, Caritas of Austin has had one mission - to assist with basic needs in times of crisis. Caritas envisions a community of hope, respect and self-reliance. Caritas of Austin works to prevent homelessness and hunger by assisting low-income community members and refugees with basic needs and promoting self-sufficiency. The organization is now one of Travis County's largest non-governmental sources of assistance. Caritas is from the Latin word for love, and in this spirit anyone with a legitimate need is eligible to receive help. Through basic needs and self-sufficiency services, Caritas will serve more than 20,000 Travis County adults and children this year.

For more infomation about Caritas, please visit www.caritasofaustin.org.

Recent Events and Updates on Past Events/Speakers

On November 27 Turk Pipkin shared his remarkable film Nobelity with the Future Forum, the LBJ Alumni Association, and the LBJ School of Public Affairs. Pipkin traveled around the world to interview nine Nobel Laureates on the problems facing the world today. Surprisingly, Nobelity conveys a hopeful message. Following the film, Pipkin answered questions and shared plans for the Nobelity Project and his next film, One Peace at a Time. To learn more, please visit www.nobelity.org.

Now Showing at the LBJ Library and Museum

Bills, Bills, Bills: Lyndon Johnson as Senate Majority Leader
through May 26, 2008

The exhibit covers Johnson's entire Senate career from his election in 1948 to his election to the vice-presidency in 1961, chronicling his rapid rise to power from a slim margin of victory in 1948 (for which he was given the nickname "Landslide Lyndon") to his selection as Majority Leader in 1955.

The exhibit features photos, artifacts, and films about Johnson's historic helicopter campaign in 1948 and his career in the Senate, in addition to interactive displays detailing the major bills passed during the 1950s with explanations of how the legislation shaped and impacted modern America. Most notably, visitors will have an opportunity to interact with "Lyndon Johnson," as interpreted by actor Michael Stuart, in a replica of the U.S. Senate Chamber.

Younger visitors to the Library get a special treat on Saturdays! Senator Johnson will read children's stories at 11 a.m. on select Saturdays in his "Senate chambers." No reservations are required. The next Storytime with Senator Johnson will be Saturday, December 8 at 11 a.m.

For more information on exhibits, the full Storytime schedule, and Library hours, please visit www.lbjlib.utexas.edu.
